PALEOS stands for grandparents foods and time at the table with the family eating a little bit of everything
PALEOS (meaning "old" in Greek), is centered around reviving and preserving authentic, traditional recipes from Greek villages, offering a true culinary experience steeped in heritage.
Paying tribute to the pre-war tavern of Angelos in Kefalonia, the grandfather of one of the owners, you will see the tray circulating through the hall and the large outdoor space with constant passersby, filled with all kinds of daily meze dishes, from which you can choose whatever you like. Meanwhile, the sketch of Angelos on the wall watches over from above.
What always brings people together is the company. Company over good, honest food, wine, raki, and tsipouro.
Each of them had their own story. Stories worth knowing. Recipes that must be tried!
Listen to the story of Mr. Kostas and Giorgos, how they lit up the tavern when they walked in, making everyone laugh with their jokes, stirring up every group they joined.
Manolios the fisherman was always the first to lend a hand to anyone in need, along with his dog, Anestis, who once saved a child from drowning at Platania Lake.
Giannis and the schoolteacher left everything behind and moved to Athens together. They say they became a couple.
The Mayor was the island's mischief-maker, always up to something in Athens along with the doctor, chasing business opportunities.
And then there was Angelos, the tavern owner, who saw all of these people as his family. He stood by them, listened to their stories, and learned their recipes—every one of them worth remembering. He knew them all by heart!
Angelos had a special gift: he could pour love into his dishes and serve wise words tailored perfectly to each friend, like a suit made to measure.
He always said, "The important thing is to maintain our health, to eat and drink well. Everything passes with a good meal. Eat, and tell us your stories."
How it all started
PALEOS is an effort to revive the recipes of our grandparents, without unnecessary embellishments. Authentic flavors, exceptional ingredients in classic recipes from every corner of Greece, compose a menu with the motto ‘Real Greek food, without pretension.’
